Focus Keyword Analyzer

Per-page view of your focus keywords — what each post is supposed to rank for, where the gaps are, and where you have opportunities you're not using.

What this is

Every post should have ONE focus keyword — the main thing it tries to rank for. The Focus Keyword Analyzer shows you what Linkilo (and your SEO plugin) detected as each post's focus, plus surfaces pages where:

  • You're getting search traffic but have no focus set (a gap)
  • Your post is ranking for a keyword you didn't explicitly target (an opportunity to optimize)
  • Multiple posts are set to the same focus keyword (a conflict)

Open the report

Go to Linkilo → Focus Keyword in the WordPress sidebar.

What you'll see

  • Page title: 🎯 Focus Keyword Analyzer
  • Help tooltip: "Per-page view of your focus keywords. Surfaces pages with traffic but no focus set (gap), pages with ranking opportunities you haven't activated, pages where the same keyword is set on multiple posts (conflict), and pages already optimized."
  • A 🔥 Top 3 Activation Opportunities highlight box — biggest wins, fix these first
  • A full sortable table with: – Post title – Detected focus keyword – Source (Yoast / Rank Math / AIOSEO / Linkilo's analyzer / Manual) – Confidence score – GSC ranking data (if connected) – Action buttons (Edit, Override)

What "Activation Opportunity" means

Posts where:

  • You're getting significant search traffic, BUT
  • No focus keyword is set, OR
  • The focus keyword you set isn't the one bringing the traffic

These are the biggest-ROI keyword improvements. A post ranking on page 2 for a keyword you didn't target — just setting that keyword as the focus and doing a small content tune-up often pushes it to page 1.

Override a focus keyword

If Linkilo got a focus keyword wrong, or you want to change strategy:

  1. Click the Edit button on that row.
  2. Type the correct keyword.
  3. Save.

Linkilo uses this override going forward — heuristic re-detection won't overwrite manual values.

Sources Linkilo uses

Linkilo extracts focus keywords from (in priority order):

  1. Yoast SEO focus keyword field (if Yoast active)
  2. Rank Math focus keyword (if Rank Math active)
  3. AIOSEO focus keyword
  4. Manual override in Linkilo
  5. GSC top query (your highest-traffic keyword for that page)
  6. Linkilo's built-in analyzer (extracts from title + headings + content)

The "Source" column shows which one was used.

Common Questions

What if I don't use Yoast / Rank Math / AIOSEO?

Linkilo's built-in analyzer kicks in. Less accurate than a dedicated SEO plugin but works.

You can always override manually per-post.

Should my Linkilo focus keyword match my SEO plugin's?

Yes. Linkilo uses the focus keyword to find link targets. If Yoast says your focus is "espresso machine" but the post is really about "best espresso machine for beginners," update Yoast to match the post's real intent.

What's the difference between this report and Keyword Cannibalization?

  • Focus Keyword Analyzer (this) = per-post view: what's the focus for each post?
  • Keyword Cannibalization = group view: which keywords have multiple posts fighting for them?

Focus Keyword is about correctness ("does each post have the RIGHT focus?"). Cannibalization is about competition ("are multiple posts targeting the same focus?").

"Activation Opportunity" vs "Gap" — what's different?

  • Gap — no focus keyword set at all
  • Activation Opportunity — there's traffic but no focus, OR focus is set but doesn't match the traffic-driving query

Activation Opportunities are usually the higher-priority fixes because there's already a known query bringing visitors.

Why does my post show "Low confidence"?

Linkilo's built-in analyzer wasn't sure. Common reasons:

  • Post is very short (under 300 words)
  • Post has no clear topical focus
  • Title is generic ("Update for 2026" tells Linkilo nothing)

Set a focus keyword manually to override.

Can I export this to CSV?

Yes — Export CSV button at the top.
