✨ AI-Powered Topic Cluster Builder

See Your Whole Site As One Map. Spot the Holes. Fix Them. Build Real Topical Authority.

Stop publishing posts and hoping they add up to something. Linkilo’s AI groups your content into hub-and-spoke clusters, picks your pillar pages for you, shows you exactly what’s missing, and ties it all together with internal links — right inside WordPress.

No spreadsheets. No tagging marathons. Auto-clusters every published post.

What you get

Your content, finally organised.

Six things change the moment you turn this on.

You see your site as a map

A visual treemap of every cluster on your site, sized by how much content you’ve published. Strong topics jump out. Weak ones do too.

Your pillar pages pick themselves

A 0–100 Pillar Score finds the strongest, most comprehensive post for every cluster. No more guessing which post should be the centre.

You get a content roadmap

Click a cluster, ask the AI “what’s missing?” and get 5–7 specific article ideas it would take to fully cover the topic.

You catch orphan content

Every post that doesn’t belong to a cluster shows up in one sticky sidebar. One click and the AI suggests the right home for it.

Clusters feed Linkilo’s link suggestions directly. Pillars get linked from spokes. Spokes link back to pillars. Everything connected.

You cover the whole buyer journey

A funnel view splits clusters across awareness, consideration and decision. Top-heavy on TOFU? You’ll see it instantly.

The problem

You’ve Been Publishing Posts. You Haven’t Been Building a Site.

No editorial structure, no topical authority

Google rewards sites that go deep on a subject. Random posts on random topics don’t earn that signal — even if each one is well-written.

You can’t see what you have

200 posts in. 800 posts in. Quick — name your strongest topic and your weakest one. Most site owners can’t. There’s no view that shows it.

Spreadsheets always go stale

You built a content map in Google Sheets. Six months later it’s out of date. Twelve months later nobody even knows where the file is.

Orphan posts quietly die

A post nobody links to is a post Google barely visits. Without a structure, you have no way to spot which articles are slipping through.

stronger ranking signal sites get when content is clustered around clear pillar topics vs. published as standalone posts

A site that publishes 50 disconnected posts and a site that publishes 50 posts grouped into 5 deep clusters look completely different to Google. The clustered site reads as an authority. The other reads as a blog.

It’s also how AI search works. Tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity surface sources they recognise as authoritative on a topic. Clustered, well-linked content is exactly what they’re looking for.

What you can do

A Toolkit Built Around the Questions You Actually Ask

Every section answers something you’ve probably wondered before — and gives you the one-click action that fixes it.

What does my site actually cover?

A treemap of every editorial cluster, sized by content depth. The shape of your authority, on one screen.

Which topics am I thin on?

A density heatmap shows clusters fading out as content depth drops — under-developed topics literally lose colour.

Which posts should be pillars?

A ranked Smart Pillar Suggestions view shows your strongest non-pillar candidates with a transparent 0–100 score.

What content am I missing?

Click any cluster, click the lightbulb. Get 5–7 sub-topics, long-tail keywords, or user questions the AI says are clear gaps.

Which posts are orphans?

A sticky sidebar shows every post that doesn’t fit a cluster yet. One AI click suggests where each one belongs.

Are my clusters actually linked together?

A Cluster Health check counts pillar→spoke and spoke→pillar links. Spot weak interlinking instantly.

Where does my buyer journey break?

A funnel view buckets clusters into TOFU, MOFU and BOFU. See whether you’re only writing awareness content and never closing.

What does my commercial content look like?

Filter clusters by user intent — informational, commercial, transactional, navigational — to focus on the ones that drive revenue.

Can I override the AI?

Drag posts between clusters. Set any post as pillar with one click. Split big clusters in two. Create your own from scratch.

Will it stay up to date?

Publish a new post, run AI content processing, and clustering re-runs automatically. No reminder, no spreadsheet to update.

AI Themed Clustering

An Editor, Not a Tag Soup. Cluster Names That Read Like a Magazine’s Section List.

Tag-based clustering gives you names like “wp-blog-post-tag-273”. Linkilo’s AI gives you names like “Buying Guides”, “Humidors & Storage”, “Beginner Tutorials”. Real editorial categories a human would write on the wall of a newsroom.

  • One click. Five to fifteen seconds. Costs about a tenth of a cent.
  • Names use 2–4 words and stay broad enough to be reusable. No product-specific cluster names that go stale next quarter.
  • A second AI pass catches anything the first one dropped, so no post gets silently lost.
  • Old auto-clusters are archived, not deleted — you can roll back if the new theme set isn’t what you wanted.

Smart Pillar Suggestions

Stop Guessing Which Post Should Be the Pillar. We Score Them All.

A Pillar Page is the cornerstone of a cluster. The wrong one wastes link equity. The right one becomes the hub everything orbits.

Linkilo scores every post on a transparent 0–100 scale based on how good a pillar it would actually be — word count, content format, entity type, funnel position, intent, and how many internal links already point at it.

  • A dedicated Smart Pillar Suggestions view ranks your best non-pillar candidates so you know which posts to grow next.
  • Every score breaks down line by line — you can see exactly why a post landed where it did.
  • Set any post as Pillar with one click on the star icon — no admin contortions.
  • Pillars are protected from accidental drag-out — you literally can’t move them into another cluster by mistake.

📖 Automated Insights: The Story of Your Content

Strongest topic: Buying Guides — 47 posts. This is your authority.
Funnel Balance: 5 of 12 clusters are TOFU. Consider creating more MOFU/BOFU content to guide visitors towards conversion.
High Performer: “Beginner Tutorials” ranks at avg. position 6.4. Your best-ranking topic.
Weakest topic: “Care & Cleaning” with only 3 posts. Likely thin authority.

💡 AI Content Gap Analysis — “Buying Guides”

Consider creating articles on these topics:
  • “How to choose a beginner-friendly humidor under $100”
  • “Travel humidor vs. desktop humidor: which to buy first”
  • “Best electronic humidifiers for cabinet humidors”
  • “Single-cigar accessories every beginner needs”
  • “Premium cutters compared: guillotine, V-cut, punch”
Cluster Health

The whole point of hub-and-spoke is the linking. The pillar links to its supporting articles. Each spoke links back to the pillar. That’s how Google understands “these pages belong together.”

We don’t take your word for it. We scan the actual HTML of every cluster post and count the real links in both directions — so you can see at a glance which clusters are properly wired and which are just folders pretending.

  • Pillar → Spoke ratio — how many of the supporting articles your pillar actually links out to.
  • Spoke → Pillar ratio — how many supporting articles link back to the pillar.
  • Pulled directly from clusters into Linkilo’s internal-link suggestions — missing links surface as ready-to-add suggestions on your posts.
  • Real link parsing, not metadata guesses — if the link isn’t in your HTML, it doesn’t count.

Funnel + intent filtering

See Your Whole Buyer Journey on One Screen.

Every cluster is automatically tagged by where it lives in the funnel — awareness, consideration, decision — and by user intent — informational, commercial, transactional, navigational.

It only takes one glance to know if your site is just educating visitors or actually walking them all the way to a purchase. And if you’re missing a stage entirely, that’s the next thing to write.

  • Three-column funnel view shows TOFU, MOFU and BOFU side by side, with cluster counts in each.
  • Filter the whole dashboard to just commercial-intent clusters, or just BOFU clusters — focus on what drives revenue.
  • Coloured borders and corner dots make funnel/intent obvious on every cluster in every view.
  • Automated insights spell out the imbalance in plain English: “You’re top-heavy on awareness. Add MOFU comparisons next.”
Plugged into Linkilo

Clusters Don’t Just Sit There. They Power Your Internal Linking.

Most topic-cluster tools stop at the visualisation. Linkilo doesn’t. Once a cluster exists, it becomes a signal in our internal-link engine — so the right pillar shows up as a suggestion when you’re writing a spoke, and the right spokes show up when you’re editing the pillar.

  • Cluster membership directly feeds Linkilo’s link suggestions with relevance-weighted matches and a clear justification: “Same topic cluster.”
  • After clustering finishes, top keywords are auto-assigned to posts so internal-linking anchors stay consistent across the cluster.
  • The Cluster Health check tells you exactly which spokes are missing the pillar link — and Linkilo queues each fix as a one-click suggestion.
  • Optional auto-resolve for keyword conflicts so two posts in the same cluster don’t fight over the same anchor.

Stop Asking “What Should I Write?”

For every cluster on your site, the AI compares the supporting content you have to what a fully-developed cluster on that topic should look like, and tells you exactly what’s missing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Plain-English answers, plus deeper detail for those who want it.

What is a topic cluster, and why does it matter?

A topic cluster is a group of articles that all cover the same broad subject, organised around a single comprehensive “pillar page” with supporting “spoke” articles linking back to it. Clusters tell Google (and AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity) that your site has real depth on a topic — which is one of the strongest authority signals in modern search. Sites that cluster their content rank significantly better than sites that publish the same articles as disconnected posts. Linkilo builds these clusters for you automatically and shows you exactly where to strengthen them.

What’s the difference between the three views?

The Insight Dashboard is the storytelling view — treemap, density heatmap, funnel network, automated insights and AI gap analysis. The Interactive List View is your workspace — drag posts between clusters, set pillars, split clusters, and see all your unclustered posts in a sticky sidebar. The Smart Pillar Suggestions view ranks your strongest non-pillar candidates with their full Pillar Score breakdown so you know which posts to grow into pillars next.

How does the AI decide which post should be the pillar?

Every post gets a 0–100 Pillar Score, calculated from six signals: word count (longer wins, with bonuses at 500, 1000 and 2000 words), content format (“What is”, “Resource Collection” and “How-to Guide” formats score highest), entity type (Concepts and Processes outscore products and people), funnel stage (TOFU/awareness gets a boost since pillars are usually entry points), user intent (Informational scores extra), and the number of inbound internal links the post already has. The post with the highest score in each cluster becomes the suggested pillar. You can override this with one click on the star icon — we never lock you in.

Do I need to use AI? Can I cluster without an OpenAI key?

Yes. Linkilo has a foundational keyword-based clustering engine that runs without any AI calls or API keys. It uses TF-IDF analysis, n-gram extraction, primary and secondary keywords, GSC keywords, tags and categories with weighted scoring to group posts. It’s free to run, takes seconds, and gives you a perfectly serviceable cluster structure. If you want better editorial cluster names like “Buying Guides” or “Humidors & Storage” instead of keyword-based labels, that’s when you click Regenerate with AI Themes and the AI takes over.

How much does AI clustering cost?

About a tenth of a cent per regeneration on a typical site. The main AI clustering call uses gpt-4.1-mini with batched post titles plus your top primary keywords, costing roughly $0.001 (yes, one tenth of one cent) and taking 5–15 seconds. The orphan-rescue pass that catches anything the model dropped costs about $0.0002. Per-orphan AI suggestions are around 500 tokens. Even on sites with thousands of posts, you’re looking at fractions of a cent per cluster regeneration. You pay OpenAI directly — we don’t mark up API usage.

What if a post doesn’t fit any cluster?

It shows up in the Unclustered Posts sidebar in the Interactive List View, with a count badge so you can see at a glance how many orphans you have. From there you can drag any post into a cluster manually, click Suggest next to it for an inline AI recommendation of the best fit, or click Auto-Cluster All to let the AI assign every orphan in one bulk operation. There’s also a final safety-net step: if anything still doesn’t fit after the rescue pass, it lands in a “Miscellaneous Content” cluster so nothing is ever silently lost.

Can I override the AI’s decisions?

Completely. Drag posts between clusters with full undo. Set any post as pillar with one click on the star icon. Use the Split Cluster tool to break a big cluster into two by checkbox-selecting which posts move where. Create New Cluster to start one from scratch. Delete Cluster sends posts back to the orphan pool. Manually-created clusters are tagged separately and never touched by automation — even when you regenerate AI clusters, your manual edits are preserved. Pillar pages are also drag-locked to prevent accidental destruction.

What does the Cluster Health check actually measure?

Two ratios per cluster: Pillar → Spokes (how many of your supporting articles the pillar actually links to) and Spokes → Pillar (how many spokes link back to the pillar). It uses real link parsing — we scrape the actual <a href> tags in your post content and resolve every URL (handling absolute, relative, query-stripped, and trailing-slash variations) to make sure the link count is real, not just based on metadata. Anywhere a link is missing, Linkilo’s internal-linking engine queues it as a one-click suggestion inside the relevant post.

How does the AI Content Gap Analysis work?

Click the lightbulb icon on any cluster card. The AI takes the pillar topic plus the titles of the existing supporting articles, compares it to what a fully-developed cluster on that topic looks like, and returns 5–7 specific sub-topics, long-tail keywords, or user questions that are clear gaps. You get the prompts as plain English headlines you can hand to a writer or use yourself. Re-run anytime — results aren’t cached aggressively, so as you publish new posts the gap list updates to reflect what’s actually still missing.

Can I filter by intent and funnel stage?

Yes. The Insight Dashboard has live filters for User Intent (Informational, Commercial, Transactional, Navigational) and Funnel Stage (TOFU/Awareness, MOFU/Consideration, BOFU/Decision). Apply a filter and the whole visualisation reshapes — you can see, for example, just your commercial-intent BOFU clusters, which is essentially a map of your money pages and their support content. Intent and funnel stage are determined by Linkilo’s upstream AI content analysis, so they’re consistent across every post type.

Will clustering stay up to date as I publish new posts?

Yes. Topic clustering is hooked into Linkilo’s AI content processor — once a session of new posts finishes content analysis, clustering automatically re-runs in the background to assign them to the right clusters (and create new ones if needed). You can also trigger a regeneration manually anytime from the toolbar. There’s a verification pass at the end of every run that catches any post still left orphaned and either re-attempts assignment or drops it into a “Miscellaneous Content” cluster as a last resort, so nothing is ever silently dropped.

Do clusters affect Linkilo’s internal-link suggestions?

Yes — this is what makes Topic Clusters more than a visualisation. Cluster membership feeds directly into Linkilo’s link suggestion engine in three ways. First, posts in the same cluster are surfaced as high-relevance link targets with the justification “Same topic cluster.” Second, the link suggestion AI uses cluster membership as a 0.15-weighted component in its overall composite score. Third, after clustering completes, top AI-recommended keywords are auto-assigned to posts so anchor text stays consistent across the cluster. The Cluster Health check also surfaces missing pillar↔spoke links as ready-to-add suggestions inside the relevant posts.

Does it work on really big sites?

Yes. AI clustering batches posts at 200 per call, so a site with 5,000 posts costs roughly the same per regeneration as one with 500 (still pennies). When the AI groups too many posts into one mega-cluster, the engine automatically splits them into 2–3 sub-clusters of 70–100 posts each, naming each with a meaningful topic extracted from the post titles. The visualisations are D3.js-based and stay snappy on hundreds of clusters. The hard limit is really only your OpenAI usage tier — we’ve tested smoothly on sites with several thousand posts.

Does the AI replace my manual clusters when I regenerate?

No — manually-created clusters are tagged in the database and never touched by automated runs. When you regenerate, only auto-generated clusters get rebuilt; anything you made by hand stays exactly as you left it. Old auto-clusters aren’t deleted either, just archived as “legacy_archive” in the database, so if a regeneration produces a theme set you don’t love, it’s technically possible to roll back. There’s also a separate Remove All AI Clusters button if you want to wipe automated work without touching your manual clusters.

What if I don’t want a particular post type clustered?

You control which post types Linkilo touches via the autopilot post-type config. By default, only post is clustered — pages, attachments, navigation menu items, and revisions are intentionally excluded. If you want product post types or custom post types included, add them to the config and they’ll be picked up on the next regeneration. If you want to exclude something currently being clustered, remove it from the config and re-run.

How long until I see meaningful clusters?

Foundational keyword-based clustering is instant — click Regenerate Clusters and you see results in seconds. AI themed clustering takes 5 to 15 seconds for a typical site. The Pillar Score, gap analysis, and intent/funnel insights need posts to have completed Linkilo’s AI content processing first, so the very richest cluster experience kicks in once that’s run on your back catalogue. On a brand-new install with no AI processing done yet, you’ll still get useful keyword-based clusters and pillar suggestions; the AI-powered insights light up as content analysis catches up.
