✅ New in Linkilo 2.9: MCP for AI Assistants

Ask Claude or ChatGPT About Your Own SEO Data And Get Real Answers, Not Guesses

Linkilo now speaks MCP, the open standard that connects AI assistants to your tools. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP client to your site and ask questions like “which pages get impressions but have no internal links?” The AI reads your real Linkilo data (orphan pages, broken links, Search Console queries, link equity) and answers with facts from your site.

Off by default. Read-only by default. You approve every connection in wp-admin.

What you get

Your SEO Data, Finally Conversational

Six things change the day you connect an AI assistant to Linkilo.

You ask in plain English

“Which posts are orphaned but still get impressions?” “Show my broken links.” No dashboards to dig through: the assistant pulls the answer from your real data.

You get facts, not hallucinations

Every tool returns only what’s actually stored on your site. If a dataset is empty, the AI is told so and instructed never to invent URLs, counts, or keywords.

Ask for internal link ideas for any post: exact-match, semantic, Search-Console-driven, or a ranked set to choose from. All drawn from your own content.

You stay in control

Off by default. Read-only by default. Four access levels. The AI can never touch WordPress users, plugins, or files, only the Linkilo data you allow.

You see everything it did

A built-in activity log records every call any assistant makes: which tool, which token, and whether it was allowed or refused. No mystery access, ever.

You use the AI you already pay for

Works with claude.ai, ChatGPT, Claude Code, and any MCP-compatible client. Web apps connect with a sign-in flow: no tokens to copy, no API keys to manage.

The problem

AI Knows Everything, Except Your Website

ChatGPT can’t see your data

Ask it about your internal links and it guesses. It has no idea which of your pages are orphaned, which links are broken, or what ranks for what.

Copy-pasting exports is miserable

Exporting CSVs and pasting chunks into a chat loses context, hits size limits, and goes stale the moment your site changes.

Giving AI your admin login is reckless

Some setups hand assistants a full WordPress account. One bad prompt and it can touch users, plugins, settings, everything.

Generic answers waste your time

“You should add internal links to important pages” isn’t advice. You need which page, from where, with what anchor, based on your actual site.

Guesswork

is what you get when an AI answers questions about a site it cannot see

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that fixes this: it gives the AI a safe, structured window into your tools. Anthropic created it; Claude, ChatGPT, and a fast-growing list of clients support it.

Linkilo 2.9 ships a full MCP server, so the AI stops guessing about your SEO and starts reading it.

What you can ask

19 Tools, Mapped to the Questions You Actually Ask

Every tool is wired to real Linkilo data. The assistant picks the right one automatically. You just ask.

“Which pages are orphaned?”

Pages with zero inbound internal links, ranked by priority, with Search Console impressions and index status attached, so you know which orphans are actually worth rescuing.

“What’s broken right now?”

Broken, redirected, and warning links from the last scan: source page, anchor, URL, and status. Ask a follow-up and (with permission) have the AI kick off a fresh scan.

“Where should this post link to?”

Internal link suggestions for any page, four ways: a diverse ranked set to choose from, semantic/topical matches, exact keyword matches, or targets that already rank in Search Console.

“Am I competing with myself?”

Keyword cannibalization (queries split across competing pages) and link cannibalization (one anchor pointing to multiple URLs), each with severity and a recommended primary target.

“Which pages hold the authority?”

Linkilo’s PageRank-style link-equity model, exposed to the AI: every page’s internal-authority percentile, site-wide or for a single URL.

“What do I rank for?”

Your stored Search Console data (keyword, page, clicks, impressions, CTR, position), filterable by URL or keyword, straight into the conversation.

“Is Google crawling me?”

Crawl-log activity by bot and by URL, plus per-page index coverage (indexed / not indexed / excluded) from Google’s own URL Inspection data.

“What are people clicking?”

Your most-clicked internal links over any recent window, plus topic clusters with their member pages: the full picture of how readers move through your site.

“Fix it for me” (if you allow it)

With an editor-level connection and the write switch on, the AI can insert an approved link into a post or create a 301 redirect. Every action is logged, nothing outside Linkilo.

Security first, always

AI Access Without Handing Over the Keys

Most “AI + WordPress” setups are terrifying: a bot with a real admin login. Linkilo’s MCP was designed the opposite way: deny everything, then let you allow exactly what you want.

  • Off by default. Until you flip the master switch, the endpoint refuses every request from everyone.
  • Read-only by default. A second switch gates all write actions. Until it’s on, even editor-level connections can’t change a thing.
  • Never WordPress admin. There is no tool for users, plugins, themes, files, or settings outside Linkilo. The surface is the internal-linking domain, period.
  • Tokens, not logins. Access tokens are stored hashed (SHA-256), can expire on a schedule, and revoke instantly. Only a logged-in administrator can ever create one.
  • Everything audited. The last 100 tool calls, including refused attempts, are listed right on the MCP Access page.
Four access levels
read_only View every insight + get link suggestions. Recommended default.
read_write + run scans, ignore broken links. No content edits.
editor + insert approved links into posts, create redirects.
admin Linkilo administration only. Never WordPress admin.

Connecting takes one minute

No API Keys. No Tokens to Paste. Just Approve.

Web apps like claude.ai and ChatGPT connect through a sign-in flow, the same pattern as “Sign in with Google.” You paste one URL, click Connect, and approve in your own wp-admin, where you choose the access level and how long it lasts.

  • Copy your endpoint URL from Linkilo → MCP Access and add it as a custom connector.
  • Click Connect and you’re sent to a wp-admin approval screen that only an administrator can see.
  • Pick the role (default read_only) and expiry, click Approve. Done.
  • Desktop clients like Claude Code connect instantly with a bearer token instead: issued, expiring, and revocable from the same page.

A Real Conversation With Your Site

This is what SEO work looks like when the AI can actually see your data.

Which of my pages get search impressions but have no internal links pointing to them?
⚙ get_orphan_pages · get_gsc_queries

You have 14 orphaned pages, and 3 of them are getting real search demand:

  1. /best-espresso-machines: 4,210 impressions, 0 inbound links
  2. /coffee-grinder-guide: 2,870 impressions, 0 inbound links
  3. /pour-over-vs-drip: 1,140 impressions, 0 inbound links

These are your highest-value rescues: pages Google already wants to rank that your own site never points to.

Suggest internal links for the espresso machines page.
⚙ suggest_internal_links (mode: choose)

Top suggestions from your own content:

  • • From /espresso-beans-guide: anchor “espresso machines” (high confidence)
  • • From /home-barista-setup: anchor “best espresso machine” (high confidence)
  • • From /coffee-gift-ideas: anchor “espresso maker” (medium)

All targets are real pages on your site. I’m not allowed to invent URLs. Want me to apply the first two? (Requires editor access + writes enabled.)

Illustrative conversation. The data shown comes from Linkilo’s real tools on your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Plain-English answers, with the technical detail where it matters.

What is MCP, in one paragraph?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard, created by Anthropic and adopted across the industry, that lets AI assistants securely use external tools and data sources. Instead of the AI guessing about your website, it calls well-defined tools like “get orphan pages” or “get broken links” and works with the actual results. Linkilo 2.9 ships a full MCP server inside the plugin, so any MCP-compatible assistant can read your internal-linking data with your permission.

Which AI apps work with it?

Any client that speaks MCP over HTTP. That includes claude.ai (custom connectors), ChatGPT (connectors), Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and a growing list of others. Web apps connect via the built-in sign-in flow; desktop and CLI clients connect with a bearer token you issue in Linkilo. Because MCP is an open standard, new clients work without Linkilo needing an update.

Can the AI break my site?

No. The MCP surface contains no tools for WordPress users, plugins, themes, files, or arbitrary settings. It is limited to Linkilo’s internal-linking domain by design. On top of that, the entire endpoint is off by default, all write actions are gated behind a second switch that is also off by default, and every connection is limited by its role. The worst a read-only connection can do is read reports. Even at the highest level, “admin” means Linkilo administration only, never WordPress admin.

Will the AI make up data about my site?

The tools make that as hard as possible. Every tool returns only data actually stored on your site. There is no generative step in the middle. When a dataset is empty, the tool says so explicitly and instructs the assistant not to invent values, and not to interpret empty data as a broken connection. There’s even a get_connection_status tool the assistant can call to get ground truth about the connection, its role, and which data sources (Search Console, GA4) are attached, so it checks instead of guessing.

How do I connect claude.ai or ChatGPT?

Enable MCP under Linkilo → MCP Access, copy the endpoint URL shown there, and add it as a custom connector in the AI app. Click Connect and you’ll be sent to a wp-admin approval screen where you pick the access level (start with read_only) and expiry. Important: you never paste a token anywhere for web apps: the URL alone plus the approval is the whole setup. Tokens are only for desktop/CLI clients like Claude Code, which use an Authorization header.

What can the AI actually see?

Exactly what its role allows, drawn from Linkilo’s reports: the internal-linking overview, orphan pages, anchor analysis, keyword and link cannibalization, topic clusters, broken links, redirects, click analytics, crawl-log activity, stored Search Console queries, index coverage, link-equity scores, and internal link suggestions. Nothing else: no user data, no emails, no WooCommerce orders, no content outside those reports.

Can it make changes, like adding links?

Only if you allow it twice. First, the connection needs an editor-level role (you choose this at approval). Second, the global “Allow write actions” switch must be on. It’s off by default, and while it’s off every connection is read-only regardless of role. When both are enabled, the AI can insert an approved internal link into a post or create a 301 redirect, using Linkilo’s own vetted mechanisms. Every write is recorded in the activity log.

How do I disconnect an assistant?

One click. Every connection, whether it came from the web sign-in flow or a manually issued token, appears in the token list on the MCP Access page. Click Revoke and access ends on the very next request. Tokens can also carry an expiry (30/90/365 days) so access ends automatically even if you forget. And the master switch cuts off everything at once.

Will this slow down my site or open it to attack?

No. Visitors never touch the MCP endpoint. It only answers authenticated requests from your connected assistants, and every query it runs is bounded and capped. Security-wise: tokens are stored hashed (SHA-256) so a database leak doesn’t expose them, requests are rate-limited per token, sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and single-use codes, and the whole surface is dead while the master switch is off, which is how it ships.

The Connect button says it “couldn’t register.” Now what?

Three usual causes, in order: MCP access is still off (enable it, then delete and re-add the connector); you’re on Linkilo 2.8 or older (the sign-in flow shipped in 2.9); or your host’s nginx blocks the /.well-known discovery URLs before WordPress can answer. That’s a one-line server exception your host can add in minutes. Our knowledge base has the exact message to send them. Meanwhile, desktop clients like Claude Code connect immediately with a token, no discovery required.
