🚀 Coming in v2.8 — here’s what’s on the way

Stop Losing Traffic to Broken Links And Soon: Fix Them Automatically

Linkilo already finds dead links across your whole site. In the upcoming v2.8 release we’re adding a complete fixing workflow — AI-suggested replacements, internal search, archived copies, 301 redirects, and an Auto-Fix autopilot — plus more accurate scanning, traffic prioritization, and centralized email. Here’s a preview of what’s coming.

The Hidden Damage

Every dead link costs you traffic, rankings, and credibility. Visitors bounce, search engines see neglect, and your best content quietly loses authority.

Weakened Rankings

Dead links signal a poorly maintained site and bleed link equity, dragging down your search visibility.

Lost Visitors

Most users leave immediately after hitting a 404 — and many never come back.

Hours Wasted

Manual checking takes forever and misses links hidden in images, videos, and embeds.

The Solution

Detect, Prioritize, and Fix — All Inside WordPress

Catch dead links before they cost you, see which ones actually matter, and resolve them with a guided, SEO-aware workflow — manually or on autopilot.

Accurate Scanning

A two-step HEAD→GET check with a confirming retry kills the false positives that plague other checkers. A link is only called broken when it really is.

Guided Fixing

Each link opens a Fix panel with the right options for its type — replace, repoint internally, 301 redirect, archived copy, or remove.

Auto-Fix Autopilot

Fix the whole list in one run with your chosen strategy — review first or apply automatically, with one-click undo.

AI suggestion

Picks the most relevant page from your own site. Never invents a URL.

Replace with a working URL
Find a replacement on your site
No live replacement? Use an archived copy (last resort)

Sends readers to archive.org instead of the original. Prefer a live URL when one exists.

Click Fix on any link → choose a method → done. No code, never leaving WordPress.

AI suggested replacement

The AI picks the most relevant page from your own site — it can never invent a URL, so every suggestion is a real, live page. Approve with one click.

Search your own content

Type a keyword and repoint the dead link to a relevant internal page — no AI required.

Replace the URL

Paste a working URL and Linkilo rewrites the link across every post that used the broken one.

Create a 301 redirect

For internal URLs that moved, file a 301 in the Redirection manager instead of editing content.

Archived copy (Wayback)

When an external source is gone for good, pull its last archived snapshot from the Internet Archive in one click.

Remove, keep the text

Strip the link but keep the anchor text when no good replacement exists.

Auto-Fix Autopilot

Don’t want to fix links one by one? Run the whole list at once. Pick a strategy, choose to review first or apply automatically, and Linkilo works through every broken link — with one-click undo for anything it changes.

  • Smart cascade — AI/internal match first, archived copy as fallback, leave the rest for manual review.
  • Wayback-only — replace dead external links with their archived copy, no AI needed.
  • AI internal replacement — repoint each link to the best page on your site.
  • Remove-all — strip dead links, keep the anchor text.
  • Review or auto-apply — your call, every run. Undo a whole run in one click.

Smarter, More Accurate Scanning

The detection engine was rebuilt to be trustworthy enough to act on automatically.

COMING SOON

No false positives

HEAD→GET fallback plus a confirming retry on timeouts and rate-limits, so servers that block bots aren’t mislabeled as broken.

COMING SOON

Traffic prioritization

Connected to Search Console? Broken links are sorted by the clicks of the page they sit on, so you fix the costly ones first.

COMING SOON

Redirect detection

Optionally flag links that still work but only via a redirect, and point them straight at the final URL — better for SEO and crawl budget.

Status buckets

Hard broken, needs review (auth-walled / transient), and redirected are separated — 301s are never mislabeled as broken.

Reliable background scans

Scans keep running with the tab closed and resume when you return — no host-specific cron headaches.

Everything checked

HTML links, images, and embedded videos across the post types you choose.

COMING SOON

One Place for Every Email

A central Email Notifications screen controls every Linkilo email — broken links, crawl log, orphan pages — from one spot. Choose recipients and how each report sends: when a scan finishes, only past a threshold, or as a daily/weekly digest.

  • Send to one or more addresses
  • On-completion, threshold, or scheduled digest — per report
  • Sends with built-in WordPress mail — no third-party mail plugin required

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the AI invent replacement URLs?

No. The AI only chooses from your own existing pages and is forbidden from inventing URLs, so a suggestion is always a real, live internal page — never a guess that 404s. You approve every change.

Do I need AI to fix broken links with Linkilo?

Not at all. Every fix is available without AI — replace the URL yourself, search your content, pull an archived copy, create a redirect, or remove the link. AI is an optional shortcut that appears only when you’ve connected an OpenAI key.

Is linking to an archived (Wayback) copy good for SEO?

It’s better than leaving a dead link, but it’s a fallback, not a first choice — an archive link sends readers to archive.org rather than the original. Linkilo presents it as the last option, after finding a live replacement, which matches SEO best practice.

Will it create false positives?

Far fewer than typical checkers. Linkilo confirms with a second request (GET) and a short retry on timeouts and rate-limits before flagging anything, and separates auth-walled “needs review” links from genuinely dead ones.

Do I need WP Mail SMTP for email reports?

No. Linkilo sends through WordPress’s built-in mailer. If you already run an SMTP plugin it’s used automatically for better deliverability, but it’s no longer required.

Can it fix every broken link automatically?

Yes — Auto-Fix runs the whole list with the strategy you choose. You can review every proposed fix before it applies, or let it apply automatically with one-click undo for anything it changes.
