How to Use the Add New Auto Links Feature

This walkthrough covers Linkilo's "Add New Auto Links" feature — set up a rule once, Linkilo auto-links matching anchor text across your site.

  1. WordPress → Linkilo
  2. From the left menu, choose Add New Auto Links

Step 2 — Add target words

Target Words are the keywords or phrases you want auto-linked. If you want the phrase "SEO proposal" to link to your SEO proposal guide, type "SEO proposal" in the Target Words box.

Step 3 — Set the destination URL

In the URL field, enter the page you want the target word to link to:

https://yoursite.com/seo-proposal-guide

Step 4 — Choose your settings

Each option fine-tunes the behaviour:

Add URL even if the post already contains it

Check this to add another link to the same URL even if the post already links to it. Leave unchecked to skip — recommended for most cases.

One link per post

Check this so each target word is linked at most once per post. Strongly recommended to avoid keyword stuffing.

Select URL before insert

Check this to manually approve each placement. More control, more clicks.

Set priority for URL insertion

Pick which URLs get inserted first when multiple rules overlap. Ignore unless you need explicit ordering.

Add URL to posts created after a specific date

Restrict the auto-link to posts published after a chosen date. Useful for date-gated promotions.

Block specific categories

Exclude certain categories from auto-linking — e.g. exclude your "News" category so promotional auto-links don't appear there.

Step 5 — Save

Click Save to store the rule.

Step 6 — Review what was inserted

The Auto Links dashboard shows:

  • Possible Links — how many times the target word appears across your site (e.g. "44")
  • URLs Inserted — how many times the link was successfully added (e.g. "5")

The gap between "possible" and "inserted" is usually because of "One link per post" capping each post at one insertion.

Click Create Links on a rule to see every match across your site with its surrounding sentence. From there you can pick exactly where the link goes — useful when you want surgical control over placement.

Step 8 — Done

The rule keeps running in the background. New posts that contain the target word are auto-linked based on your settings. You can revisit Add New Auto Links any time to edit or delete rules.

Key takeaways

  • Target Words = the keywords you want auto-linked
  • URL = where they link to
  • Check boxes based on your needs — "One link per post" is the safest default
  • Create Links for manual placement control
  • Auto-links save hours of manual internal linking, but watch for over-optimization. Avoid the same anchor in dozens of posts.
