How to Get an OpenAI API Key for Linkilo

Why you need this

Linkilo's AI Suggestions use OpenAI's API to generate context-aware link suggestions and anchor text. You bring your own OpenAI key — OpenAI charges you directly for usage, separate from your Linkilo subscription. This keeps your API costs transparent and lets you scale up or down as your traffic does.

Step-by-step

1. Go to platform.openai.com and sign in (or sign up)
2. Click your account avatar in the top-right
3. Choose View API keys
4. Click Create new secret key
5. Give the key a name like "Linkilo" so you can recognize it later
6. Click Create secret key
7. Copy the key immediately — OpenAI only shows it once. If you lose it, you have to generate a new one.

Add the key to Linkilo

1. In your WordPress admin: Linkilo → AI Settings
2. Paste the key into the OpenAI API key field
3. Click Save
4. Click Test connection to confirm the key works

A few tips

• Set a usage cap on your OpenAI account so you don't get a surprise bill. Go to OpenAI → Settings → Billing → Usage limits.
• Add a payment method in OpenAI before testing — the API rejects requests if billing isn't set up, even with a valid key.
