How to Improve Linkilo’s Link Suggestions

Linkilo's suggestions are only as good as the keyword and content signals you give it. Three levers to pull, in order of impact:

1. Add excluded words

Linkilo ships with common stop-words excluded, but every niche has its own. If your site uses certain words constantly, they'll start polluting suggestions.

For example, we don't exclude the word "Guide" by default — it's sometimes a useful anchor. But if your titles all say "X Guide", you'll see Linkilo suggesting "guide" everywhere.

To add custom exclusions:

  1. Linkilo → Settings → Content & Ignored Words
  2. Under Words Linkilo should ignore, find the Your stop words field
  3. Add the words or phrases you want skipped, one per line
  4. Save Settings

See How to exclude words and phrases from link suggestions for the full guide. If you want to block a phrase on one specific post only (not site-wide), see Negative Keywords vs Excluded Words instead.

2. Scope suggestions by category

When you're working in a specific niche, suggestions from unrelated categories add noise. Linkilo has two ways to keep suggestions in the right neighbourhood:

Example

You run a home and garden site with categories: Home, Garden, Backyard.

You're writing "Best ways to add mulch to your lawn".

You also have "Best way to do yoga if you have a lawn outside".

Linkilo sees "Way" and "Lawn" in both — without scoping, it might suggest linking between them. That's not useful.

Fix at scan time: open Linkilo → AI Suggestions → Processing Settings → Categories and tick only the categories you want suggestions generated for in this run.

Fix site-wide: open Settings → Content & Ignored Words → Categories to skip and check off categories that should never appear as link targets. Yoga is skipped permanently and the Mulch post never sees it as a candidate.

For finer per-post control, open the post in the editor and use the Suggest based on: toggles in the AI Link Suggestions metabox (Title / Keywords / Categories / Previous anchors) to choose which signals Linkilo should weight.

3. Build structure with keywords

The most leveraged fix: give Linkilo a richer keyword set per post. Use all four sources:

The richer the keyword set, the more relevant the suggestions. As a bonus, this work helps you spot keywords you should be ranking for — Linkilo becomes both a linking tool and a content strategy tool.

Other small wins

  • Re-scan after changes. Settings changes don't retroactively apply until the next scan. Click Run Now on Linkilo → AI Suggestions (or wait for the next Autopilot pass) after edits.
  • Set the right content language. See How to change Linkilo to a different language. Wrong language = wrong tokenization = noisier suggestions.
  • Enable the right post types. See How to add custom post types to Linkilo. If your products / recipes / courses aren't enabled, they can't be suggested as link destinations.
