How to Receive Broken Link Reports by Email

What it does

Linkilo's broken link checker scans your site for broken outbound links on a schedule. With email reporting on, you get a digest of every broken link found, so you can fix them without logging in to check.

Step 1 — Enable email reports

  1. WordPress → Linkilo → Broken Links → Settings
  2. Toggle Enable email reporting on
  3. Enter the Recipient email — where the reports go
  4. Enter an Email subject line so the report is easy to spot in your inbox
  5. Save

Step 2 — Make sure email actually leaves your server

WordPress's default wp_mail() doesn't reliably deliver to most inboxes. You almost certainly need SMTP set up.

Without SMTP, the report might be generated but never reach your inbox.

Step 3 — Test

Run a manual broken-link scan to verify the email pipeline:

  1. Linkilo → Broken Links → Run scan
  2. Wait for the scan to complete
  3. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for the report

If the report didn't arrive, the issue is almost always email delivery — not Linkilo. Use WP Mail SMTP → Tools → Email Test to verify your SMTP setup is working.

What's in the report

Each email includes:

  • Total links scanned
  • Number of broken links found
  • A table of broken links with the source post and the broken URL
  • Direct links to fix each broken link in the Linkilo dashboard
