A common question about the Index Coverage report: "Is Linkilo checking my indexing every day and comparing? How does this graph work?" Short answer: the bars are daily snapshots of your last scan — not a fresh daily check against Google. Here's exactly what that means.
Where it lives
Linkilo → Diagnose → Index Coverage. It needs Google Search Console connected — see Google Search Console. Without it the page says "Search Console isn't connected" and nothing can be scanned.
How the data flows
- When you run a scan (or re-inspect a page), Linkilo asks Google's URL Inspection API for each page's real status: indexed, not indexed, excluded, or error.
- Those verdicts are stored per page.
- Once a day, and after each scan, Linkilo records a snapshot of the totals — that's one bar on the Progress over time graph (the Coverage snapshots tab).
So if you scanned on Monday and did nothing else, Tuesday's and Wednesday's bars will look identical: they're snapshots of the same (Monday) data. Flat bars mean "nothing was re-inspected", not "indexing is stuck".
The "Last inspected" note
Under the graph you'll see: "Last inspected: [date] — these bars reflect your last scan, not a fresh daily check. Re-scan to refresh the numbers (you have full API quota)." That date is the honest timestamp of the last time Linkilo actually queried Google. If no page has been inspected yet, the note says so and asks you to run a scan.
The second tab, Crawl activity, is different: it's reconstructed from each page's most recent Google crawl date, grouped by week. It's approximate — only the latest crawl per URL is known — but it gives you real signal before daily snapshots build up.
When to re-scan
- After publishing or updating a batch of posts.
- After fixing noindex / canonical issues.
- Weekly or bi-weekly as routine hygiene. The Today's API usage card shows how much of the daily inspection quota you've used.
Use Start scan for a full pass (it becomes Resume scan if an earlier pass stopped part-way, and Stop scan while running). The scan runs in the background; you can leave the page and come back. Use the per-row re-inspect button (↻) for a single page, and Reset to stop the scan and clear today's counter.
Reading the statuses
- Indexed — Google has the page in its index.
- Not indexed — Google knows about it but hasn't indexed it (the Coverage state column says why).
- Excluded — deliberately kept out (noindex, canonical to another page, redirect).
- Not inspected — Linkilo hasn't asked Google about this page yet.
Click the chips above the table to filter to one status. Each row also shows Google's Last crawl date.
If the scan stops
Linkilo stops safely and tells you why instead of retrying blindly — for example an expired Google connection, the URL Inspection API not enabled, no access to the property, or the daily quota used up. The error box offers Open Search Console settings (to reconnect) and Open Google API settings. Only URLs that belong to your selected Search Console property can be inspected.
Tip: pages that are not indexed and also have few internal links are prime candidates — check them against the Orphan Pages and Link Priorities reports.
