What Is “Update URL” and How Does It Work?

What Update URL does

Update URL is a site-wide find-and-replace for links in your content. Tell Linkilo "every time you see https://example.com/old-page/, replace it with https://example.com/new-page/" and Linkilo will scan all your posts and pages and swap them out.

This is not a redirect — it physically updates the link in your post content. Visitors land directly on the new URL with zero redirect hop.

Common use cases

  • Expired affiliate or promo links — swap "best laptop on sale" affiliate to the new offer once the sale ends
  • Permalink changes — restructured your URLs from /anchor-text/ to /blog/anchor-text/? Update URL fixes every internal link in one pass
  • Outdated article replaced with a fresh one — old guide gone, new guide live. Update URL points all the existing internal links to the new article.
  • Discontinued product — for e-commerce, redirect from the old product URL to a similar product
  • Fixing typos in inserted URLs — accidentally linked to htttps://... everywhere? Update URL fixes them all.

How to run it

See How to use the Update URL Replacement feature for the step-by-step.

Update URL vs Redirection — which to use

Situation Tool
The old URL still exists, but you also want some posts to point at a different URL Update URL
The old URL is gone and you need 301s for search engines and visitors Redirection Manager
URLs changed site-wide and you want both — redirects for external visitors AND clean internal links Both (set up redirects, then Update URL to clean internal links)

The combination is powerful: Redirection Manager covers external visitors, Update URL keeps your internal links squeaky clean so visitors never go through a redirect hop on your own site.
